Text "OLD FASHIONED" with a sketch of a cocktail glass with a citrus garnish.

A classic Old Fashioned cocktail served over a large ice cube in a rocks glass, garnished with an orange peel and a maraschino cherry.

Ah, the Old Fashioned—classic, smooth, and always reliable. It’s my tried-and-true, my signature sip, the cocktail I turn to when I want something simple yet sophisticated.

Before you get started, make sure you’ve got a big ice cube frozen and ready to go. Trust me, it makes all the difference. If you don’t have an extra-large ice mold, don’t worry—I’ve got you covered. [Shop my favorite one here.]

What you’ll need:
  • 3-4 dashes of orange bitters

  • 3-4 dashes of regular bitters

  • ¼ oz. agave (or a little less if you like it less sweet!)

  • 2 oz. of your favorite bourbon

  • A fresh orange (for that perfect garnish)

  • A maraschino cherry (because it’s not complete without one)

Stirring the cocktail ingredients with ice in a mixing beaker.

How to Make It:

1. Mix it up. Add all the ingredients (except the orange and cherry) into a cocktail beaker with ice. Stir for about 20 seconds until everything is perfectly chilled. [I swear by this cocktail beaker—shop my favorite one here.]

2. Strain over ice. Pour it over a BIG ice cube in your favorite glass.

3. Garnish like a pro. Express an orange peel over the drink, drop it in, and add a maraschino cherry for that finishing touch.

4. Sip and enjoy. Because you just made a killer Old Fashioned!
